 Jane Newbery – Practice Manager

Jane has a wealth of experience having worked for many years as a practice manager and medical secretary/personal assistant in the private sector.

She is now the practice manager for Apple Surgical Clinic and is the key point of contact for patients and referring clinicians. She organises consultations for new, review and post-operative patients, along with any appropriate scans and tests requested at your clinic appointment. She will also assist with fee packages for self-funding patients.

Jane is friendly and approachable and ensures that everything runs as smoothly as possible for the patient. She will organise surgery dates to suit you and any post-operative reviews, follow-ups and onward referrals swiftly and efficiently.

Helen Aizlewood RGN – Specialist Nurse

Helen has been a Specialist Nurse at BMI The Alexandra Hospital, Cheadle, for five years. She specialises in general surgery, having spent 11 years working on general surgical wards.

Her role is to ensure that you have a smooth journey from initial consultation, through to procedure and postoperative care.

She coordinates the clinics run by Mr Agwunobi and liaises closely with the relevant diagnostic wards and departments to ensure all our patients’ needs are met.

Throughout your treatment, she will be available to answer any questions you may have. She will support and guide you throughout your stay with us, then continue to support you once you are back at home.

Dr Gordon Yuill

BSc(Hons) MBChB, FRCA

Dr Gordon Yuill graduated from Manchester Medical School in August 1994. He trained as an Anaesthetist in the North West of England and has been on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council since August 2004. He successfully revalidated in May 2013.

As a Substantive Consultant Anaesthetist at Stepping Hill Hospital, since August 2004, Gordon has been Clinical Lead for Obstetric Anaesthesia and is an Advanced Paediatric Life Support Instructor and accredited Medical Appraiser.

He is an enthusiastic supporter of Global Health Programmes, leading international outreach teams in Armenia and Uganda. He is also the joint editor of World Anaesthesia News and an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Salford.

Dr James Willmott – Consultant in Anaesthesia and Critical Medical Care

CMB ChB FRCA FFICM

Dr Willmott graduated from Manchester Medical School in 1995. He undertook further training in Queensland and Sydney, Australia before returning to the UK. He was appointed Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine, for East Cheshire NHS Trust, in 2007.

He has worked with Mr Anselm Agwunobi for six years and has anaesthetised and cared for hundreds of bariatric, upper gastrointestinal and general surgical cases. His specialist interests lie in bariatric anaesthesia, colorectal surgery and Intensive Care medicine.

Louise Thurstan – Dietitian

BSc, PG Dip, RD

Louise qualified as a State Registered Dietician in 2000 after gaining a BSc in Applied Consumer Science at Manchester Metropolitan University and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Dietetics at Leeds University. She has worked in various NHS hospitals and joined the private sector in 2003. She has extensive experience in adult general medicine, surgical support and weight loss surgery. She has also been instrumental in establishing active patient-led support groups, developing and implementing nutritional screening tools and providing hospital-wide training on therapeutic diets.

In 2011 Louise set up LA dietitians, a specialist provider of clinical dietetic services, in partnership with Alison Whitworth. They work closely with multi-disciplinary teams and leading consultants to ensure that patients receive seamless, high quality care throughout their treatment.

Alison Whitworth – Dietitian

BSc, PG Dip, RD

Alison graduated from The University of Kent in 1992 with a BSc in Biochemistry and went on to gain a Post-Graduate Diploma in Dietetics at Leeds University before qualifying as a State Registered Dietician in 1995.

Since then she has worked in a range of NHS and private hospitals. Alison is highly experienced in many clinical areas, including medicine, surgery and chronic disease management. Her specialist interests include gastrointestinal surgery and medicine, weight loss surgery and palliative care.
